FREE Seminar: IBM DeveloperConnect 2015

Feb 3,2015 - Time: 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
Check out DeveloperConnect where you can learn what others are doing to thrive in this IT world that is changing beneath our feet. We will talk about delivering content through multiple channels with a mobile first focus and what that means for connecting to legacy systems, the Internet of Things and the Cloud.

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2015

IBM Technical Exploration Center 8401 Greensboro Drive Suite #120 McLean, Virginia 22102
Please see Lighting Talks and Hands-on Labs descriptions below 8:30am - 9:00am Registration 9:00am - 12:00pm Lightning Talks or Hands-on Labs 12:00 pm - 1:00pm Lunch 1:00pm - 3:00pm Lightning Talks or Hands-on Labs Lighting Talks - Descriptions: 1. The App Explosion: What does it means for developers? -The world has shifted to delivering content through multiple channels (traditional Web, mobile, etc), the Internet of Things and Cloud, which presents new challenges to developers. This talk will cover strategies for the developer to manage things like continuous delivery, connections to back-ends, mobile, security, and devops. 2. Building Next Gen Applications and Microservices - Come hear about best practices for building engaging next-gen applications including microservices that will help with scaling, continuous integration, high availability, and deploying your apps to both cloud and traditional environments. 3. Myth: You need to re-factor all of your applications to move to cloud - In order to take advantage of new cloud architectures or container based platforms, you have to follow application principles. What about Systems of Record applications? Do you need to refactor those in this new world of Cloud? Come to this session to learn how to take advantage of the cloud without rewriting all your apps. 4. Practical DevOps in Hybrid World - The world is Hybrid. Back-end systems continue to run on physical Infrastructure. Organizations are adopting hybrid solutions made up of on-prem and off-prem cloud, and of cloud adoption models including both Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS). For DevOps adoption, this is challenging as it results in application delivery pipelines that span across complex hybrid cloud and non-cloud environments. This session will introduce IBM UrbanCode Deploy with Patterns (UCDP) for Application Delivery Automation across such hybrid environments. It will show how UCDP can also provision multiple cloud environments. We will use solution architectures from existing customers to explore deployment automation to hybrid cloud. 5. Overview and Strategy to Build, Deploy and Continuously Improve Mobile Apps - How do you rapidly and cost effectively deliver a portfolio of enterprise mobile applications? Explore with us how you can meet and exceed customer expectations and business requirements with a standards-based, mobile first application platform and an agile, integrated mobile DevOps strategy that helps you develop, connect, manage and secure mobile apps with unmatched speed and agility. 6. Shift Left to better business results: Deliver quality software continuously - Adopting a DevOps approach including a shift left in testing helps organizations accelerate delivery of higher quality software. Earlier and continuous testing enables teams to release with confidence, reduce cost and risk, and test with greater speed and efficiency. This session will demystify what a shift left approach to testing is all about. 7. Let's talk! Tell us what you want to discuss and learn about. On the day of the event Tweet your topics to @Dev_Events and maybe we'll pick your topic. Hands-on Labs - Descriptions (Seats are limited - First Come First Serve): 1. WebSphere Application Server Liberty Profile lab (20 mins) A discovery into Liberty Profile which includes a summary of basic features and functions, along with simple guided application development. 2. BlueMix - Android Application Boiler Plate lab (45 mins) Create an Android Application that runs on IBM BlueMix and leverages various mobile application services. 3. Bluemix - Build a Java EE Cloud Trader (45 mins) Create a Java EE benchmark applications that runs on IBM BlueMix and leverages the SQLDB BlueMix service. 4. Discovering DevOps with UrbanCode Deploy and Rational Test Virtualization Services (Duration: 3 – 4 hours) Examination of Continuous Integration to an implementation of Continuous Delivery focusing on Rational UrbanCode Deploy as the chief mechanism for deployment automation. 5. Cloud based Bluemix and DevOps Platform as a Service (Duration: 2 – 4 hours) Using IBM Bluemix as an open-standards, cloud-based platform for building, managing and running apps of all types (web, mobile, big data, new smart devices).

FREE RTW Open Labs, McLean, VA

Feb 4,2015 - Time: 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
The OPEN labs are offered free of charge. They are self-paced with workbooks, and subject matter experts will be present to answer questions. Take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about the Rational products listed below. Register for one or more of ten self-paced, hands-on labs: -Rational Test Workbench and Rational Test Virtualization Server The increasing cost of testing and development complexity while balancing quality and speed has become extremely challenging for software projects. Agencies are now looking for innovative ways to improve software quality and development agility. Technologies such as virtualization enable continuous integration testing much earlier in the development cycle by removing dependencies on software and services. Application virtualization can also replace costly environments. This Open Lab exercise is intended to introduce the user to the innovative capabilities in the new Quality Management offerings: Rational Test Workbench for end-to-end testing integration testing and Rational Test Virtualization Server for collaborative access to virtual services and applications for non-production uses. Lab 1 - Modeling the system under test Lab 2 - Creating tests Lab 3 - Viewing test results in the gallery Lab 4 - Virtualizing system components Lab 5 - Publishing virtual services Lab 6 - Performance testing

FREE Webcast - UPDM, a UML/SysML Implementation of DoDAF/MoDAF for Military and Commercial Architect

Feb 18,2015 - Time: 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Please join IBM® on February 18 , 2015 at 12:00 PM EST for a one hour live webcast titled UPDM, a UML/SysML Implementation of DoDAF/MoDAF for Military and Commercial Architectures. Over the past few years, system architects have often used UML and SysML to capture DoDAF and MoDAF architectural views. But without guidance of a well- defined standard, many of these attempts have resulted in ad hoc and unreusable solutions. The Unified Profile for DoDAF and MoDAF (UPDM) specifies a standard for using UML/SysML to capture DoDAF/MoDAF views. This presentation provides an overview of this profile, including its metamodel, the mapping of DoDAF/MoDAF artifacts to UML/SysML and a demonstration of the profile in Rational Rhapsody. Also, Rational Rhapsody's UPDM Profile and defense workflow interface between Rational System Architect and Rational Rhapsody is demonstrated. - Scheduled for February 18 , 2015 - Event is scheduled for: 1 hour - Who should attend this event: Software / Systems Engineers and Technical Managers - Delivered By Gavin Arthurs - IBM Rational Systems Solution Architect Should anyone have any questions regarding this event please feel free to contact your IBM Rational Sales Representative.
